The Georgia Tech chapter of LSAMP has now joined with the Peer 2 Peer (P2P) mentoring program. Please visit the P2P page for more information and to apply.
The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is a National Science Foundation funded initiative that seeks to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who complete science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) baccalaureate degree programs and matriculate into programs of graduate study.
LSAMP is a national program with chapters at various colleges and universities that has been in existence for over two decades. LSAMP participants are more likely to complete their bachelor degrees and go on to graduate school than non-participants from all racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Program Details
The Peach State LSAMP (PS-LSAMP) Alliance is a collaboration of six higher education institutions in the state of Georgia including:
- Georgia Institute of Technology
- University of Georgia
- Georgia Perimeter College
- Savannah State University
- Fort Valley State University
- Kennesaw State University
PS-LSAMP members participate in a wide variety of professional development workshops, mentoring, undergraduate research exposure, and have the opportunity to interact with their peers at the Annual Fall Symposium and Research Conference.
The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program at GA Tech is open to ALL students, who are enrolled full-time in the College of Sciences, College of Computing and the College of Engineering. However, students must meet the National Science Foundation's eligibility requirements in order to be funded through the program.
The goal of the LSAMP program at GA Tech is two-fold: to focus on the retention of under-represented minority students through completion of the baccalaureate degree and to expose this group to research careers in STEM. These goals will be met by providing peer mentoring, workshops, research opportunities, and networking with program faculty, staff and students.
